New album Labyrinth — out now.
Automaton is a psychedelic doom / post-black metal band formed in 2012 in Athens, Greece. Their sound combines down-tuned, slow-tempo riffs with minimalistic patterns, psychedelic textures and black metal elements.
Over more than a decade, they have built a dense, immersive world where drone, doom, and the avant-garde collide — drawing comparisons to the most uncompromising voices in heavy music.
Their second album Τάλως (Talos) features a landmark collaboration with legendary Cretan lyra player Psarantonis — a meeting of ancient musical tradition and modern heaviness that stands as one of the most distinctive moments in contemporary Greek metal.
Their third studio album, Labyrinth, is out now on Sound Effect Records. Inspired by the ancient Greek myth of the Minoan Labyrinth, it unfolds as an allegorical journey through dark twists and treacherous trails — the labyrinth as a metaphor for the disorienting pathways of modern life.
In 2026 the band returned to Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo and launched the album with a release show at Black Temple in Athens. Next up: supporting YOB at Kyttaro, Athens, on 25 May 2027.
